Enoxaparin sodium injection (brand name Lovenox) is a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) used as an anticoagulant to prevent and treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism, and complications from heart attacks or angina. It is administered via subcutaneous injection (under the skin), typically in the abdominal area.

Uses: Prevents blood clots after hip/knee replacement, abdominal surgery, or during acute illness; treats active DVT/pulmonary embolism.
Administration: Usually injected into the fatty tissue of the abdomen (belly) twice a day. Do not expel the air bubble in the prefilled syringe; it helps ensure the full dose is given and reduces bruising.
Mechanism: It works by accelerating the activity of antithrombin III, which inactivates clotting factor Xa.
Common Side Effects: Bleeding, bruising, and pain at the injection site are common.
Warnings: It may cause serious, potentially fatal bleeding. It is important to rotate injection sites to avoid skin damage.
